Job Description
The Financial Accountant will be responsible for but not limited to the following duties:
Leadership and management
- Seeks to foster a work environment which enhances partnership, teamwork and cooperation
- Establishes good communications with other employees and departments
- Reports to and consults with the Accounting Manager, Financial Controller and Chief Financial Officer as required
Operational Responsibilities
- Performs reconciliation of various balance sheet accounts
- Assists the Shared Services Manager with monthly cost/revenue accruals, journal preparation and entry
- Analysing Income Statement accounts to ensure all cost/revenue is accrued for
- Assists the Finance Business Partners with analysing relevant P&L accounts related to the Balance Sheet accounts they are responsible for
- Maintenance and analysis of the relevant balance sheet registers and completion of monthly allocation journals
- Completion of other relevant month-end tasks
Resource Management
- Adherence to the organisation's codes of professional conduct, code of ethics
- Is responsible for the efficient management of resources, both human and material
- Initiates and participates in departmental quality improvement
Contributes to the achievement of professional expertise for self and direct reports through:
- Maintenance of ongoing personal professional development / continuing education
- Identifying, encouraging and monitoring the continuing development of others within a learning culture.
The Successful Applicant
The successful candidate will have experience in the following:
Educational/Vocational
- Qualified in a recognised accounting qualification accepted by the Australian Society of Accountants or the Institute of Chartered Accountants
Experience
- At least three years in a finance accounting role within a relatively complex organisation
- Experience in healthcare finance desirable but not essential
- Demonstrable experience in presenting complex information in an understandable format
- Evidence of being a team player with the ability to work with others on shared goals both internal and external to the Finance department.
- Ability to analyse financial and performance data, be able to draw inferences and make suggestions for corrective action where appropriate
- Ability to plan own work and prioritise accordingly
- Good communication & interpersonal skills with the ability to work with staff at all levels with a varying levels of financial skills
- Excellent spreadsheet, IT & keyboard skills
- Ability to deal with changing circumstances and processes
