About Us
The Department of Regional NSW (DRNSW) was formed in 2020 as a central agency for regional issues. The Department is responsible for building resilient regional economies and communities, strengthening primary industries, managing the use of regional land, overseeing the states mineral and mining resources and ensuring government investment in regional NSW is fair and delivers positive outcomes for local communities and businesses.
The NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) supports the development of profitable primary industries that create a more prosperous NSW and contributes to a better environment through the sustainable use of natural resources.
Within NSW DPI, the Biosecurity & Food Safety division is responsible for effective management and risk minimisation of biosecurity threats to NSW as well as the through-chain regulation of food safety. It delivers a risk-based approach to policy and compliance and provides regional engagement and coordination in response to emergency incidents impacting primary industries and the food sector.
About the role
Support the Public Information function in the planning, development and implementation of strategic communications. You will be responsible for liaising with the media, including issuing media releases, liaising and coordinating with media outlets, developing key messages and other communication material for release to the media and general public, support key staff in communications and media activities and assist with management of response social media plans including social communications development and social monitoring. In this role your key accountabilities will be: Support the development and implementation of communication strategies under the guidance of the Public Information Officer to position the plant biosecurity response positively with its audiences and support the management of complex issues that impact the response Assist with communications advice to ensure consistency of key messages delivered in a way that is relevant to the situation and audience Provide advice and guidance to staff about communication tools, including appropriate usage and appropriate innovation Act as the primary contact point for the media enquiries Coordinate the preparation of materials for release to the media and other related media coordination activities Act as spokesperson if other officers are unavailable, responding to requests for information. Monitor (social) media for reporting accuracy and address issues based on policies, frameworks, and guidelines of Biosecurity Food Safety.
Essential Requirements Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or demonstrated experience in an appropriate discipline including media, public relations, emergency management (particularly public information), industry development or community engagement/development. Current NSW Driver License
