Deakin Research is seeking a Senior Systems and Data Officer to work closely with senior leaders and team members at all levels. The role provides advice and resolves information systems issues relating to the quality of essential Research data. The successful applicant will also be a representative on IT committees and working parties as required. The role also has external interaction with consultants on special projects.
There is flexibility for the role to be undertaken from either the Waurn Ponds campus in Geelong or our Burwood campus in Melbourne. While there is flexibility to work from home part of the time, ideally you will work on-site on at least Mondays and Tuesdays to engage with your team.
As the first point of contact, the Senior Systems and Data Officer will receive service tickets and triage items to the right person. You will engage your critical thinking capability to scrutinise the issues and identify opportunities to make changes which will uplift the service, including the creation of standard operating procedures (SOPs). The role also has a hands-on component and so experience with Service Now and/or Jira would be welcomed. While the role is focused on systems and data rather than reporting, you will need to be capable of writing SQL.
Your key responsibilities will include: Envisioning and implementing customer interactions that meet or exceed customer needs, including systems, people, interfaces, and service across Research Distilling the core issues from complex information, drawing accurate conclusions and condensing complex information and next steps into simple concise terms that others can understand Providing technical support and assistance for Research, including management and prioritising customer issues through first contact first point resolution, recording, and tracking interactions and associated detail prior to triage Ensuring incident management and service requests are completed to a high standard in line with service level agreements and key performance targets Promoting technical solutions, by providing training and assistance to functional teams, to modernise work practices and ensure alignment with Deakins strategic direction Designing and implementing knowledge articles, support materials, work instructions, SOPs to support the management; and coordination of service to ensure customer satisfaction Providing administrative system maintenance, updates and support, and testing complex systems and procedures while exercising high level diagnostic skills to identify system faults Ensuring data stored is accurately maintained through continuous monitoring, and quality assurance methodologies are developed and applied Provision of advice on data and information stored on Research information systems to clients, to assist with effective decision making at all levels of the University Providing support and assistance to all areas of Deakin Research primarily through data extraction and interpretation Planning and prioritising work and critical activities appropriately and recognise barriers to achieving outcomes, finds effective ways to deal with them and evaluates progress
To be successful, youll have: A Tertiary degree in an Information Technology or related discipline and subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education/training Experience implementing ITIL processes, particularly those in Service Strategy, Service Design and Service Transition IT Help desk, or other customer service experience Demonstrated high-level skills in the use of relational database applications, developing queries and reports using database query languages/applications SQL, Microsoft Excel and Tableau (or similar skills) Demonstrated experience in the management of data within a large complex database including collection, collation, validation, and dissemination Experience working in a higher education environment is desirable but not essential Experience with ServiceNow and Jira is desirable
