About the roleReporting directly to the Head of Health Safety and Risk, you will make immediate impact as part of significant transformational and leading industry change. In addition to experience like no other, you will gain exposure to all facets of Emergency and Risk Management across an Integrated Manufacturing Industry, from Pit to Product including Port, power, gas and construction.
The Superintendent Emergency and Risk Management contributes to the success of Liberty Primary Steel (LPS) through the delivery and maintenance of fit for purpose Emergency and Risk Management frameworks aligned to operational requirements for the Whyalla Steelworks and associated SIMEC Mining functions.
To do this you will: Develop, maintain and continually improve on risk management strategies, processes and systems for monitoring operational risk, assure controls are operating effectively, monitor risk management issues, develop methodologies for the assessment and mitigation of risks, communicate risk processes and provide risk management research and analytical support to the operation Ensure optimal emergency preparedness and response capabilities always exist at the Whyalla Steelworks and associated SIMEC Mining functions that is commensurate with operational requirements Provide ongoing visible leadership with respect to safety and risk, support others to comply, hold leaders to account and be the key driver of a "Working Safely" at all times culture.

About your experience
You will be experienced in Emergency and Risk Management with strong leadership skills and a focus on safety who can collaborate, build productive relationships and take accountability. You will also understand the importance of continuous improvement, supporting transitional projects and work cultures for the future as we continue to focus heavily on carbon reduction and sustainability. Energised and positive in nature, as well as the drive and tenacity to be a strong advocate to making things happen.
You also have: A certification or qualifications in Risk and Emergency Management with relevant industry experience in a leadership role, preferably in mining or heavy industry Comprehensive knowledge of Health, Safety & Risk legislation and best practice standards Strong stakeholder management, communication and negotiation skills Passion to challenge the status quo and a focus on results Demonstrated experience in driving process improvements initiatives Have the demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross functional team orientated environment at all levels of the organisation If you feel that you are an exceptionally capable and conscientious person first and foremost, then we would love you to help us do great things.
