Job Description
The Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for leading the financial management accounting arm of the organisation by the delivery of timely and accurate financial accounting and system administration activities. Financial accounting activities include leading and managing the closure of month end and year-end financial accounting processes, reconciliations and reporting, regular maintenance of chart of accounts, leading year end audit as well as implementation and maintenance of a range of financial policies, systems and practices throughout the organisation.
System administration Subject Matter Expert managing activities such as daily management of system administration tasks and issues, management of complex requests and issues with ERP vendor support teams. Proactively looking for efficiency's and better use of the finance systems. There may be other maintenance tasks required from time to time as directed by the Financial Controller.
Analyse operational performance to support strategic business planning, bench-marking and operational planning with an emphasis on driving continuous improvement. This includes analysis of the internal and external business environment.
Deliver financial information and optics to produce monthly management reporting, statutory and regulatory reporting and ensuring that internal and statutory timetables are met.
Supervisory Responsibilities: 2 direct reports (2 Financial Accountants)
Budgetary Responsibilities: $150M turnover of organisation
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Financial Accounting responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Managing and driving the accurate and timely periodic processing of financial accounting activities across bank reconciliations, fixed assets, taxation, capital accounting, payroll processing, revenue, expense including balance sheet reconciliations.
- Managing and ensuring financial modules in ERP are maintained to meet processing, policy and procedure and compliance requirements.
- Preparing and management of compliance tasks (BAS, FBT, internal audit requirements, DET and other mandatory reporting) in a timely manner and assisting the Financial Controller with maintenance of the annual finance calendar.
- Leading and managing the annual audit process (interim and final) with auditors, internal and external stakeholders, making available information and insight in a professional and timely manner
- Managing financial system administration activities in accordance with the organisation's instrument of delegation and resolution of issues in a timely manner.
- Collaborating with the Financial Controller for the timely and compliant delivery of the Annual Statutory Accounts
- Managing the annual review of the financial accounting policies and processes to ensure an adequate level of governance and control is in place and develop recommendations of new policies and procedures based on business requirements.
- Researching and revising procedures to accommodate changes in legislation, audit recommendations and to ensure internal financial controls.
- Proactively demonstrating ongoing commitment to the Strategic Plan, policies and to quality assure processes by actively engaging and implementing process improvements that benefit the organisation.
- Building a customer focus with strong, professional, and productive relationships with internal and external parties.
- Act as 2IC to the Financial Controller.
The Successful Applicant
The Senior Financial Accountant will be:
- CA/CPA Qualified
- Proven experience delivering on objectives in a similar position
- Strong understanding of the Australian Accounting Standards and contemporary accounting issues
- Experience in the preparation statutory accounts, handling compliance tasks and managing auditors and external stakeholders
- Contain an appetite for process improvements
- Leadership of a small team is desirable but not essential
- Previous experience using TechnologyOne is also desirable
