Electrical Supervisor

Primary Objective

Electrical supervisors are experienced electricians who lead, motivate, monitor and oversee a team of electricians to ensure they produce quality work. They provide technical guidance regarding the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems.

The job duties of an Electrical Supervisor entail technical, interpersonal and administrative responsibilities. They are responsible for coordinating and scheduling their team, as well as ensuring quality work. In some cases, they may have a role in hiring and termination decisions.

The Administrator will provide office and administrative support to the teams on site. This role is vital for the smooth-running of the day to day business.

Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) AccountabilitiesComply with EHS Policies and Procedures

Key Accountabilities:

RESPONSIBLE FOR:Creation and Distribution of work and training schedulesMotivate your team of electricians to increase their productivity and meet work goalsEnsure the proper maintenance of equipment, compliance with electrical codes and adherence to safety regulationsAssist with electrical system installation, troubleshooting and repair as needed. Designing electrical systems and circuits, as well as contributing to improved designs and manufacturing processes are other common job functionsIn addition to supervisory duties, electrical supervisors commonly have administrative dutiesEnsure adequate inventory, plan budgets, prioritize purchases, prepare cost estimates and document purchasesKeep records of electrical operations and timesheetsHiring, and evaluating employeesDeveloping JSAs for tasks within area of responsibility

QualificationsBsc or HND in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or equivalent technical qualification in Electrical and Electronic engineering; Current Queensland Electrical licenceHaving Minerals commissions certificate of competence will be an added advantage; A registered member of Australian Institute of Engineers or qualified to become member before employed; Must have a practical appreciation of energy commission wiring regulations. A Wiring Inspectors certificate will be an advantage. Minimum of 5 years practical electrical engineering experience in a mining or related environment, majority of which must has been in a supervisory position in a mining environment; Must be proficient at troubleshooting and repairing heating systems for Gold processing applications. Must have MV switching experience and a strong skill set in working on MV motors; Strong experience in Variable speed drives, Soft-starters and industrial drive systems; Standard 11 Statement of Attainment and/or BMA CoreCoal Board Medical Current CPR/LVR CertificateCurrent Manual Drivers license Working at heights and in confined spaceS1,2, 3 and G2 (Supervisors)Demonstrated supervisory and employee management skills, prior experience in an Electrical Supervisor's roleHV Ticket essentialDemonstrated skills in achieving safe-production targetsAbility to work independently and efficiently as part of a team; Ability to work under pressure with little supervision; Strong computer background in MS office and Autocad; Strong leadership, organisational, and interpersonal skills;Pass Drug and Alcohol Test

Experience and Technical SkillsSufficient qualifications and experience for appointment as the Statutory Electrical SupervisorMinimum of 5 years mining or similar heavy industry experience as an ElectricianMinimum of 2 year's Supervisory experienceDemonstrated skills in report writing, spreadsheets, costing systems, cost controlEnsuring all work carried out in relation to electrical equipment and installations in their area of responsibility is adequately supervised this includes electrical staff, contractors and labour hire employeesEnsuring electrical equipment or installations in their area of responsibility are installed and tested in accordance with the Mine Safety and Inspection Regulations 1995 and maintained in a safe working conditionEnsuring electrical installations and equipment are in accordance with Australian Standard AS/NZS 3000 Electrical installations (also known as the Australian/New Zealand Wiring Rules)In their area of responsibility, stopping the installation or use of any electrical equipment considered to be dangerous, and reporting to the manager any situation that may affect the safe use of electricity or contravene the Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations 1995Regularly checking that the electrical nominee or electrical contractor has reviewed and inspected uncertified installations, and signed the electrical log book entriesInvestigating, recording in the electrical logbook and reporting to the managerany electrical shock or burn received by a personany fire suspected to be caused by electricityany dangerous occurrence involving electricity that could have caused injury to a person.The electrical supervisors duties for maintaining electrical equipment include ensuring:Maintenance systems are in place in their area of responsibility so that electrical equipment and installations are maintained in a safe working order electrical supervisors must continually monitor the maintenance system to ensure it remains up to dateContractors have entered their work in section 1 of the areas electrical logbook and it has been certified by the nomineeeach entry made in the electrical logbook contains all details required by the Electricity (Licensing) Regulations 1991, including the name(s) of electrical worker(s), the contractor(s) that performed the work, and the date on which the work was completedthe in-house licence nominee or electrical contractor has certified all entries in the electrical logbook relating to new installations, alterations and additions to existing installations, including when electrical installation works are removed or made redundantall electrical installing work is inspected and tested in accordance with the regulations.Ensure compliance with the highest safety standards, complying with OSHAS 18001 and environmental management (ISO 14001) as well as company policies and regulations; Lead a team of Electricians in the execution of all electrical installation works and associated infrastructure on the mine; Develop schemes for the installation, use and examination of electrical apparatus and electrical distribution systems in accordance with minerals commission health and safety regulations Assign tasks and review daily work control sheets to ensure optimum utilization of labour. Ensure that all electrical critical spares are maintained within specified limits; Ensure accurate documentation of all electrical maintenance works; Put in place procedures for safe execution of tasks (including Task Instructions, permits to Work, Task Risk Assessments, and Toolbox Talks); Ensure that electrical systems and equipment are maintained according to standards in order to meet expected plant availability and reliability. Communicate routinely and effectively with the Unit Manager Electrical Power and other supervisors as required; Perform any other related duties that may be assigned from time to time by supervisor.
