About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a UNIX Engineer to provide ongoing professional implementation within the NEC team at the Department of Defence. In this challenging role, you will work closely with the to incorporate technical feedback into the build process to streamline project delivery and ongoing BAU support for the UNIX environment.
Key Responsibilities
You will have the following key responsibilities:Define, install and maintain midrange UNIX serversMonitor systems in line with pre-defined operational controls, processes and requirementsSuggest and/or implement solutions to resolve problems and maintain a high level of customer satisfactionSupports the coordination of the processing environment and software distribution, upgrades and maintenanceAdminister central and/or distributed computer systemsProvide third level technical support for complex problemsBe available for on call roster, cyclic maintenance, DR, high severity issue resolution periodically as part of the defined support modelImplement system changesRun and distribute defined system management reportsAccountable for junior staff workload and completion of delegated tasks
Skills & Experience
To be successful in the role, you will be an experienced Unix Technical Support Engineer specifically with exposure to hardware diagnostics and troubleshooting in an enterprise environment.
Additionally, you will have the following:A can-do attitude and ability to provide a level of subject matter leadership and technical support to the teamKnowledge of UNIX technologies, specifically Red HatAdvanced problem solving and analytical skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills
