About Our ClientMy client is a Local Government Council in South West Victoria located in Warrnambool. This is a midsize regional council a well established leadership team.
Job Description
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for but no limited to:
- Prepare monthly/quarterly general ledger reconciliations.
- Coordinate the investment portfolio and manage cash flow.
- Complete the annual Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) Return ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
- Partner with identified internal business units to provide accounting support and guidance.
- Maintain the plant an equipment fixed assets register in accordance with accounting standards, policies and procedures.
- Provide accounting guidance and advice to other finance team members and Council officers.
General Finance
- Completion of allocated monthly general ledger balance sheet reconciliations including Property and Rating subsystem. reconciliations and suspense account reconciliations.
- Preparation and posting of journals to the general ledger.
- Perform duties as a finance partner to selected business units.
Investment and Cash Flow Management
- Preparation of the fortnightly cash projection report.
- Coordinate the short and long term cash flows.
- Identification of surplus funds and investment of surplus fund.
- Coordinate Council's Investment Portfolio.
- Conduct all month end journals.
Financial Reporting
- Financial Acquittals:
- Coordinate the timely completion of financial acquittal statements for funding received across all Council Directorates by working collaboratively with Council's primary funding contacts.
- Preparation of financial acquittal statements for funding received by Council.
Tax Compliance
- Completion of the annual Fringe Benefits Tax Return
- Ensure compliance with all other relevant taxation legislation including GST
- Participate in the review of Council's Motor Vehicle Policy
The Successful Applicant
The successful candidate will have experience in the below:
- Tertiary degree in accounting or related discipline.
- Eligibility for membership of either CPA Australia or the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
- Demonstrated accounting experience in general ledger reconciliations, month end journals, financial reporting and budget preparation with analytically and problem solving skills.
- Experience in the preparation of FBT returns.
- A current driver's licence
What's on Offer
The successful candidate will be offered a Band 6 level role and receive local council benefits and flexible working. This is a permanent part-time role for 30.5 hours per week. The successful applicant will be required to work at the office throughout the week.
