About the Project
McConnell Dowell in partnership with John Holland (Joint Venture) have been selected to deliver the Kidston Hydro 2 Project (K2-Hydro), far-north of Queensland. Project completion is expected towards the end of 2024.
K2-Hydro is the flagship project of the Kidston Clean Energy Hub, an iconic renewable energy project located 270 km northwest of Townsville in North Queensland. It will utilise an abandoned gold mine that is integrated and co-located with the Kidston 50MW Solar Farm to generate, store and dispatch renewable energy on demand during peak periods the first pumped storage hydro-electric power station in Australia.
Your Opportunity
We are currently seeking applications for the position of Project Engineer (Geotechnical), to support our K2-Hydro Project. Recent Graduates are also encouraged to apply.
2:1 FIFO roster. Attractive remuneration. Hired directly to the Project. Camp facilities include Pool, Gym, Basketball court and Tennis court. Flights provided from Brisbane, Townsville or Cairns, then Charter plane to Kidston. Immediate start or after a reasonable notice period. Role Responsibilities
Provide liaison with the Head Office Design & Engineering Department. Compile monthly reports from information received from engineers and superintendents. Interact with other Engineers/Managers to review, implement, and manage the quality requirements for the project. Regularly assess the effectiveness of the quality on the project and provide reports to management on quality performance and areas for improvement associated with inspection activities. Compile quality records. Establish and implement quality surveillance activities/reports. Liaise with sub-contractors including tendering process Submission of Hold Points and Witness Points as required per ITPs Key requirements of the role:
2 - 5 years experience in Tunnelling, Mining or Civil projects (or where less experience, demonstrable ability to have completed the core requirements of the role) Conduct geological mapping during excavation of tunnels, shafts, and caverns to provide ground support recommendations based on design drawings. Ensure the currency and accuracy of information for schedules and reports, provide timely submission of reports and project schedules, and assisting with information for meetings. Ahead of excavation, interpret and forecast ground conditions as required. Coordinate with Engineers and Supervisors on Design drawings, temporary works, scheduling and status of the project. Provide general technical assistance & Interpret drawings to supervisory & field personnel. Manage Work Lots and ITPs (Inspection and Test Plans) Coordinate supply of materials to site (concrete, reinforcement, rock anchors, etc.) Ensure temporary works designs and fabrication are verified prior to use of the specific item in consultation with the Engineering team. Weekly compliance with the projects Safety KPIs Ensure ground movement triggers are compliant with design drawings and assist in monitoring data. (Training provided for specific equipment in use) Candidates will also possess:
Valid Australian working rights. Construction Industry Induction card (white card) or ability to obtain one before commencing employment. Evidence of vaccination against COVID-19 Valid Manual C Class Drivers Licence Strong understanding of Health and Safety rules and procedures.
