The Medical Secretary is responsible for projecting a professional image of the Practice while delivering essential ...
secretarial support to the Medical Practitioners and all members of the Health Team. The role provides a well organised, caring and friendly service to patients and other staff members to assist in the achievement of the philosophy and objectives of the Practice.
Responsibilities include:
- Liaise with surgeon and patient to coordinate clinical arrangements (including surgery)
- Generate patient informed financial consent (IFC) for surgery
- Collect prepayments for surgery when required
- Ensure IFC and prepayments received prior to surgery date
- Follow up results, pending & cancellations
- Monitor incoming and outgoing correspondence
- Schedule robotic surgery bookings
- Prepare and distribute surgical lists
- Provide patient with surgical preparation instructions per surgeon advice
- Arrange additional surgical lists as requested/required (including arranging assistant, anaesthetists, devices/prosthesis)
- Submit health fund/Medicare/DVA/ 3rd party billing
- Pursue bad debtors and escalate to Practice Manager as required
- Other reasonable administrative support requests from the surgeon
- Open and close the practice as required from time to time
- Participate in meetings as required from time to time
It Is Essential You Have:
- An understanding of National Privacy Principles and their application
- Appreciation of what constitutes a reportable data breach and associated processes
- Demonstrated ability in determining priorities and meeting deadlines whilst working with demanding workloads and/or large volumes of work
- Experience in the use of computerised work processing packages specifically Microsoft Office
- Experience in the performance of administrative support services
- Experienced in dealing with sensitive and demanding public enquiries by telephone and face to face
- Sound level of written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of general office procedures
- Understanding of medical-legal environment (third party and civil
liability etc
- Maintains professionalism and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive issues
