The Sydney and Sydney Eye Hospital is a Centre of Excellence, providing world-class specialised eye services. Sydney and Sydney Eye Hospital Emergency Department provides emergency services to the general public for eye trauma and is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
What you'll be doing The primary purpose of the Career Medical Officer Grade 2 (CMO 2) in the Emergency Department at Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital is to provide clinical care in eye and general medicine to patients requiring emergency medical services in a complex clinical environment. This position will have responsibilities and opportunities for autonomous practice, with guidance from the Head of Department and other Staff Specialist, commensurate with the level of experience of the incumbent. The CMO2 is responsible for the supervision and guidance of Junior Medical Officers and is a key person who works closely with all members of the ED team. Opportunity to progress successful applicant to CMO3 (Senior CMO) subject to meeting Award criteria. Shifts may be rostered on days, evenings or nights on negotiation.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. Please provide proof of booster vaccination if available.
Selection Criteria MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia. A minimum of five (5) years satisfactory full-time post-graduate experience, including recent demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner in an Australian Health System. Demonstrated competency in clinical skills including advanced life support with ability to perform ALS procedures and Airway Management Skills. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management. Demonstrated ability to work with appropriate independence, in a general adult and eye emergency within a supervised complex clinical environment. Demonstrated evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education, including supervision of Junior Medical Officers. Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem solving skills in a clinical setting within a multidisciplinary team, with excellent verbal and written communication skills in dealings with patients, team members and supervisors.
