Waste Compliance Officer

Utilise your customer servicing and regulatory skills to educate and ensure that the community are compliant with appropriate practices in relation to the relevant Legislation and Councils Guidelines.

Randstad are currently partnering with a local council in western suburbs who are seeking a Waste Compliance Officer to join their team on a temporary basis.

About your new role

As part of the councils Regulatory Services team, you will contribute to create awareness of and implement the relevant local and state legislation in order to maintain

and improve the quality of the Citys amenity. Reporting to the Team Leader - Waste Management, the Compliance Officer is responsible for:

- Assisting to develop and progressively implement an illegal dumping process/incident.
- Identifying and rectifying any inappropriate use of roads and footpaths by placement of illegally dumped items, abandoned shopping trolleys and illegally placed posters/banners/signs.
- Attending an incident and observing/reporting and taking the necessary action on any activities in contravention of any relevant legislation.
- Providing information, assistance and education to the community on a range of regulatory functions.
- Responding to complaints and enquiries from residents, businesses and customers including via phone, email, letter and in person in a timely and courteous manner as required.
- Regularly conducting inspections and investigations and keeping accurate and detailed notes in relation to potential breaches of legislation and By-Laws.
- Formulating concise and accurate documentation relating to investigations and where required assist in the preparation of documentation for court proceedings.
- To act as a witness and/or provide evidence when required.
- Adequately managing any corporate records
- Supporting and assisting the Compliance Team as required in animal management, parking and other general compliance tasks.

What you will need

This role is right for you if you are a customer service pro and ideally have experience working in the Local Government Regulatory environment or similar.

- Certificate 4 in Local Government (Regulatory) or equivalent qualification.
- Class C Driver's License
- National Police Clearance
- Demonstrated experience in delivering a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Demonstrated experience in a broad range of compliance activity programs.
- Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication skills and sound negotiation, conflict management, analytical and problem solving capabilities.
