job detailsRandstad are proud to currently be partnering with a large State Government client to help them recruit for multiple PO4 and PO5 Lawyers within Brisbane CBD. Working across and within multiple teams, these roles offer learning opportunities that will further and support an applicant's development of technical expertise, interpersonal skills, management and leadership within the legal industry.
The ideal candidate for these exciting roles is one with a minimum of 5 years post admission demonstrated experience as a lawyer, the ability to practice law within Australia and also one who is looking to expand on their professional experience and development within the Public Sector.
Your new role
On offer are multiple permanent fixed term contracts that will build your exposure and career in a prominent position within the Public Sector and Legal Industry.
Within this position key duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to;
...
- Conducting a professional legal practice as a specialist practitioner and undertaking the range of legal work set out in the attached Schedule, in respect of the areas of law; either Government Insurance & Risk (Compensation Lawyer, Historial Sexual Abuse Claims) or Native Title Act
- When required, provide supervision and guidance to other members of the practice in conduct of legal matters.
- As required, assist in:
- The provision of legal training to officers of client Departments;
- Promoting the organisations services to client Departments;
- The provision of legal training to officers of the organisation;
- The provision of specialist advice and guidance on questions of law and practice to other officers within the Legal Practice Group;
- Liaising with officers of Government Departments, Corporations and Instrumentalities;
- Negotiate skilfully in tough situations, winning concessions without damaging relationships; and
- Write and communicate clearly, succinctly in a variety of settings to convey messages that will achieve a desired effect.
- Participate in and maintain a proactive approach to Self Development, including:
- Achievement of CPD points; and
- Participation in Departments performance management and development framework and any feedback processes.
- Comply at all times with the business standards, including:
- The client service charter;
- The requirement to meet set targets for billable hours;
- Quality and timeliness measures; and
- Quality Assurance framework.
- Prepare submissions, briefs, ministerial and departmental correspondence, answers to Parliamentary Questions on Notice, briefing notes on Cabinet submissions and legal and policy advice for the Attorney-General, senior departmental officers and departmental units within the Department;
- Consult with relevant statutory bodies, departments, professional bodies and community groups on policy and legislative matters
What will you need to be successful in this role
As this role will be working within the legal industry providing professional advice it is essential to meet the follow criteria and qualifications.
- A degree in law from a recognised tertiary institution or admission as a barrister or solicitor is required to perform this role. Higher studies in law, public administration or related areas would be well regarded.
- 5 years post admission experience
- The ability to currently practice law within Queensland
- Ability to obtain and pass a criminal history check and/or a National Police Check
- Availability to work full-time hours Monday - Friday.
- Experience working with Government Insurance & Risk; Historic Child Sex Abuse Claims, or the Native Title Act would be considered in high regard
Benefits

- PO5 - $118,197-$126,566 + 12.75% super
- PO6 - $130,699 - $138,116 + 12.75% super
