It is a national, innovative program developed by Good Shepherd in collaboration with The Commonwealth Bank of Australia. The FIH is a recovery program designed to support individuals who have experienced financial abuse as part of domestic and family violence (DFV).
Reporting to the Team Leader Financial Counselling, this role will work within the Integrated Financial Counselling Team to support the development of new referral pathways and best practice co-delivery with other sectors, such as family support and family violence caseworkers, and provide one-to-one casework.
The Financial Counsellor will provide intensive support through an in-depth phone and/or face to face assessment of a persons financial situation, case work, advocacy, and the identification of options to address financial concerns. Financial counsellors may undertake a triage process, prioritising and referring clients to other sources of support and assistance as necessary and work closely with other services through consultation and cross referral. Financial counsellors always support the persons fullest participation and empowerment in planning and decision-making using a trauma Informed approach.About youMinimum Diploma level qualification in financial counsellingA minimum of 2 years financial counselling experience including family violence financial counselling Current membership with FCVic/FCA or similar body in the state of practiceExperience working with diverse groups and cultures as well as vulnerable and at-risk clientsUnderstanding of family violence including financial abuse and working within the MARAM guidelines.Knowledge and experience in the application of trauma informed practiceExcellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills Evidence of being fully* Covid-19 vaccinated (*3 vaccinations in line with ATAGI guidelines), or medical exemption
