Job Description
* Using economic/financial models, support the assessment and evaluation of new business opportunities (with recommendations) taking into account business objectives and risk/reward profile
* Support negotiations to protect and enhance the company's position
* Develop advanced financial modelling, financial statement analysis, decision modelling, reporting and ad-hoc analysis to support strategic initiatives
* Create, analyse and dissect complex economic/ financial models - with no adverse audit findings
* Proactively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to improve the company's negotiation position and probability to achieving the desired value proposition
* Extensive involvement in business case development, internal gatekeeper process, acquisition due diligence and post-acquisition integration
* Research and analyse target markets and market segments and integrate findings into evaluations
* Preparation of executive management/ Board reports and presentations to support key decisions
* Support documentation, submissions and recommendations to make informed investment decisions
* Support the business development teams to reach project financial close
* Participate in negotiations/ agreement creation/ drafting and approvals
* Drive and improve financial accountability and awareness across business areas
* Assist in development and management of Energy Risk Management Plan
* Attendance and participation to various meetings as required
* Support other activities as assigned
The Successful Applicant
*Minimum 5-6 years direct and relatable experience as a Commercial Analyst/Advisor in the Energy industry
* Degree in Economics/Finance/Commerce or Engineering (ideally with MBA/CFA post grad education)
* Applied analytical experience in project development/greenfields/brownfields/operations and decommissioning across Australia including regulated and deregulated energy markets
* Previous analyst role with any of the following: a big 4 accounting firm; a consulting firm with a recognised energy market practice; oil & gas, exploration & production, a corporate which is a NEM market participant, renewable project developer
* Advanced Excel modelling to support evaluation of complex opportunities and projects (incl M&A)
* Specialist knowledge of project/ economic/ financial evaluation metrics and thresholds
* Identify and leverage economic/ commercial/ financial value levers to support negotiations/ decisions
* Applied understanding of technical elements of projects e.g. engineering/costs/integration
* Working knowledge of foundation agreements: NDAs/ MOUs/ JOAs/ JDAs/ PPAs/ Facility Agreements/ govt. funding
* Demonstrated ability to identify and communicate key insights/ recommendations from their analysis
* Use commercial/evaluation frameworks to influence and drive executive decisions
* Experience leading virtual teams for projects: finance/tax/engineering/project controls/ BD
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in environments of high uncertainty
* Demonstrated self-assurance techniques with high-quality auditable analysis/ advisory
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
