job detailsAre you a Traffic Engineer and aspire to work with local government having the ability and relevant experience?
We are currently recruiting a Traffic Engineer for a local SA council, just outside of the Adelaide metropolitan area for a short term contract with potential extension.
Position Objectives:
- Provide technical advice, reports and design input to the wide range of projects ongoing in the council area. Assess the performance and safety of traffic and transport assets and make recommendations that enhance the transport network performance and road safety in the District, maximising the take up of grant opportunities working with others.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical traffic and transport advice including specialist review of traffic engineering aspects of projects.
- Provide design review, advice and formulate effective practical solutions to traffic engineering related problems.
- Plan and coordinate the timely acquisition of various forms of traffic data on the local road network for the better planning and delivery of road related services in consultation with the Asset Management team.
- Liaise with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) on traffic related interfaces with the arterial network as well as speed limit assessments and recommendations.
- Coordinate policy and procedure development for road safety and traffic engineering matters
- Advise, scope and lead Local Area Traffic Management investigations and reporting.
- Respond to traffic engineering and traffic management related enquiries.
- Prepare, review and appraise Traffic Impact Statements.
Required Skills & Knowledge:
- Sound knowledge of Australian Road Rules and Regulations and the principles of being an experienced Traffic Engineering Practitioner.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Code of Technical Requirements for the Legal Use of Traffic Control Devices (DIT), Pavement Marking Manual (DIT) and other legislation associated with road management.
- Experience in the preparation of funding applications, and benefit cost calculations.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Knowledge of project management principles as relating to project investigations and recommendation writing.
- Exceptional and highly developed customer service skills.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
- 5+ years technical experience in the field of traffic engineering, road safety auditing, preparation of traffic impact statements and Safe Systems.
- Experience in the management of traffic engineering projects and program development, conceptualising complex traffic control devices, such as roundabouts, pedestrian crossings and bicycle facilities.
- Experience in the development of road safety strategies and public education programs.
- Experience in designing, undertaking and implementing pedestrian and cycling studies.
- Desirably experienced, qualified and registered Road Safety Auditor
- Diploma or Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or other relevant discipline OR equivalent extensive and relevant experience.
