Led by Professor Alex Brown, this National Indigenous Genomics Consortium will ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are at the forefront of, and co-developing, community driven research partnerships and priorities and translating research outcomes into practice to deliver to deliver better health outcomes for Indigenous Australians and drive the establishment of Australia's first large scale efforts in Indigenous genomics.
The team is united by the goal of ensuring diverse populations have equitable access to the life-changing potential of genomic medicine and they now have an opportunity for a Community Engagement Manager to join the team.
The Role
This role will work with the Head, Indigenous Genomics to support the development and achievement of the Indigenous Genomics research program. The Community Engagement Manager will act as the primary connector between Indigenous families, communities, external stakeholders, and the research team(s) by creating links, partnerships, networks, building and maintaining critical relationships.
Specifically you will:Develop community-led engagement models that allow two-way knowledge exchange and opportunities for Indigenous people to lead and participate in the development of Indigenous genomics research and health priorities, protocols and governance modelsEngage with, co-ordinate and provide secretariate support to the South Australian Indigenous Genomics Governance CouncilWork with the Head, Indigenous Genomics to develop culturally appropriate community engagement plans and processes, that engender respectful and long-standing relationships with communities nationally, and in particular within South Australia.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated experience in the following: Pursuant of Section 50(d) of the Equal Employment Opportunities Act 1984, the occupant of this position must be of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descentTertiary qualification or demonstrated extensive experience in a relevant field (such as business administration, project management, public health, Be able to act and communicate sensitively and effectively with Indigenous Peoples and have knowledge and understanding of their histories and cultures,An understanding of Indigenous research, research design and application across diverse cultural settings,Strong cultural awareness of varying Indigenous cultures that reside within South Australia,Experience in working with Indigenous communities and multiple stakeholders, including demonstrated ability to consult with community and represents community views and interest,Great people skills with the ability to develop strong internal and external relationships, including ability to communicate in a confident, assertive, and non-aggressive manner and ability to manage conflict,Ability to work under pressure and manage competing deadlines,Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and work autonomously and as part of a team, with a flexible, positive and collaborative approach,Current valid drivers license, andAbility to travel inter and intra state.
This is a full-time position for 4 years contract at first instance, with a potential for extension.
