The Role

SCT Logistics are currently recruiting for a Head of Locomotive Maintenance to join their Penfield SA team.

The primary purpose of the Head of Locomotive Maintenance is to take overall responsibility and accountability for the Locomotive Maintenance function of the Rail Division. This strategic role will implement the maintenance strategy and definition of processes and maintenance tactics for continuous improvement and maintenance of technical integrity, safety, reliability and availability of the CSR and SCT Locomotives.

This role is designed to provide clear leadership and vision, inspire and motivate staff to achieve excellence and mentor them as they develop new skills.

Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer Rail Asset Management, the responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Overall responsibility for locomotive maintenance activities across the business
- Create and implement best practice strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve business performance
- Be the technical authority for maintenance and design changes of rolling stock to ensure safety, fitness for purpose and environmentally compliant
- Report on maintenance activities on a regular basis to the Senior Management team, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of the relevant Key Performance Indicators
- Liaise and coordinate with clients, members of the maintenance team and contractors on technical points and issues
- Be accessible to provide direction when decisions points are reached on the work management process
- Ensure SCT Logistics contract management practices are adhered to
- Manage resources effectively, monitor direct reports and reports on costs
- Ensure strong communication between rail departments and direct reports
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

- Qualifications in an appropriate trade discipline or an Engineering Degree
- Experience leading a maintenance function with a proven track record in strategic maintenance leadership delivering effective maintenance strategies, policies, processes and systems
- 10 years experience in maintenance related fields including systems maintenance, technical integrity, risk management, asset management, maintenance management or engineering management
- 4 years experience with rolling stock in a rail engineering/maintenance environment (desirable)
- Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to optimise team performance and development
- Ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvement
- Proven project management and supplier experience
- Experience of operating and influencing at a strategic level
- Strong and confident negotiator with the ability to negotiate all levels
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Results oriented with ability to plan and deliver against project deadlines
- Commercially and financially astute with experience of managing budgets
- Technical mindset
- Risk management expertise and understanding
