The Challenge
As the Civil Wastewater Engineer you will be responsible for providing planning, delivery and support activities associated with asset compliance, maintenance, renewal and disposal of HWC wastewater network assets.
This will include but not be limited to condition assessment, refurbishment, renewal, replacement, upgrades and other improvements to Hunter Waters wastewater assets including the gravity and pressurised mains network. Network asset improvements may also involve the investigation and response to overflow hotspots, network infiltration issues and odour hotspots. The role will also involve integration and co-ordination with a number of other sections within the wider Hunter Water business.
What youll do: Provide engineering and technical functions necessary to enable effective and efficient service delivery for customers with a focus on the rolling zero to two-year horizon. Lead and assist technical investigations and risk assessments and coordinate and report on corrective actions. Develop and maintain highly effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including maintaining Hunter Waters reputation with groups including Transport and local Councils
What youll need to be successful:
Essential Criteria: Tertiary qualifications in Civil or Environmental Engineering Class C Drivers licence Construction Induction Card Minimum of ten (10) years post-graduation work experience in design, condition assessment and project management Experience in risk based engineering throughout the asset lifecycle Working knowledge of statutory asset requirements, with the ability to drive continuous improvement in (not limited to) wastewater assets. Proven ability to build and maintain highly effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proven commitment to demonstrating safety leadership
Desirable Criteria: Hold current training/licences in some or all of the following: Confined Space Entry & Working from Heights. If training is not held this role must be willing and able to complete mandatory training requirements. Asset management training Project management experience Chartered Engineer or/or Registered Engineer. Proven experience in managing design or construction projects in wastewater or other civil engineering areas. Experience of working with GIS/Ellipse/AOMS or other computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS), involving work control, cost and asset performance data acquisition, analysis and reporting An understanding of financial aspects related to project management An understanding of the technical aspects, failure modes, repair methods and failure prevention techniques for wastewater and linear assets
