Part-time (0.8 EFT) fixed-term role (available until July 2024) Primarily based at the Austin Hospital in HeidelbergAustin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across three campuses in the Northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. About the division:
The Surgery, Anaesthesia and Procedural Medicine Division (SAPM) is responsible for over 50,000 procedures per year delivered to the community serviced by Austin Health. The Surgical Liaison Nurse (SLN) role has a focus on the preadmission requirements for Elective Surgery patients within the Surgery and Endoscopy Access Team, however the workload and work focus of all SLNs can change depending on the requirements across all units within SAPM.
About the role:
As an SLN you will provide specialty nursing services for patients requiring elective surgery at Austin Health, and will act as part of the elective surgery booking team.
A regular day will see you: Provide efficient, streamlined and effective patient journey preadmission processes for elective surgery patients Work closely with relevant staff including the elective surgery booking team, surgical units, unit managers, patient access and flow, bed management, outpatients, theatre & anaesthetics and other liaison nurses across Austin Health Ensure the educational needs of the patient and their carer/family are met through a variety of mediums
About you:
You will be someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be comfortable problem-solving in a variety of complex situations. Youll be comfortable working both autonomously as part of a dynamic team.
Youll further have: Registered Nurse registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) without restrictions Substantial knowledge and expertise of the role and function of the SLN Strong clinical assessment skills and demonstrated leadership ability A patient-centred approach to evidence based care delivery
