Job Description
Working closely with the partner on complex matters in the areas of debt recovery, commercial litigation, building and constructions disputes and insolvency nationally.
Responsibilities
- Draft advices, pleadings and prepare matters for hearing
- Attend witness conferences and prepare affidavits and witness statements
- Brief senior and junior Counsel
- Appear in directions hearings and conferences
- Prepare for and attend court
- Mentor graduates, summer clerks and junior lawyers
- Assist with business development and marketing initiatives
- General commercial and complex contractual disputes
- Corporate and share-holder disputes
- Insolvency related disputes
- Consumer and trade practice disputes
- Winding up applications
The Successful Applicant
The ideal candidate will have:
- At least 2 years post admission experience, preferably in commercial law of general litigation;
- Building and construction disputes and insolvency law experience will be highly regarded
- Demonstrated experience in drafting and advising on commercial contracts;
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills;
- A high level of attention to detail and technical excellence;
- High level problem solving skills and an ability to learn new tasks quickly;
- Strong time management and organisational skills, together with the capacity to manage multiple projects and conflicting priorities;
- Ability and willingness to develop your own network and actively participate in marketing and business development activities;
- Appearing at interlocutory hearings including Directions Hearings, Defence Call-Overs, Winding Up and Bankruptcy hearings; and
- Preparing briefs to Counsel and working with Counsel.
