About the Role
The Senior Building Surveyor will advocate for legislative and technical reform, develop and review fire service positions and review cladding rectification solutions. The Senior Building Surveyor will also appear as a subject matter expert within Building Appeals Board proceedings and support or act as FRV's representative to the AFAC built environment planning technical group (BEPTG) on matters concerning the National Construction Code and the development of specific Australian Standards.
Functional Accountabilities include:
- Assess, evaluate and/or inspect cladding rectification solutions that are referred to FRV by processes associated with Building Appeals Board proceedings, Cladding Safety Victoria funded projects including direct referrals from municipal building surveyors;
- Keep abreast of changes to industry practices, standards, technology, electric vehicle readiness and other related issues where they affect fire safety, to ensure the FRV maintains expert status in fire safety matters;
- Competently represent FRV as a subject matter expert within related legal proceedings and meetings as they related to fire brigade intervention, cladding and broader fire safety policy matters;
- Undertake fire safety inspections of buildings, public infrastructure and civil structures to ensure compliance with regulations, Australian standards and FRV requirements;
- Prepare & review Fire Safety Policies, Work Instructions & Guidelines relevant to specific fire safety issues.
What you will need to Succeed
To be successful in this position, you will have:
- An undergraduate degree or diploma in building surveying;
- Eligible for registration in the category of Building Surveyor in Victoria with the Victorian Building Authority;
- Extensive experience of combined municipal and private building surveying;
- A proficient building inspection skillset that supports post incident analysis and investigation reporting;
- Demonstrated ability to develop, review and deliver specific built environment and/or fire safety policies and guidelines;
- Graduate Certificate in Performance Based Buildings and Fire Codes (Desirable);
- Member of the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors or the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Aust.) (Desirable);
- Certificate IV Workplace Training and Assessment (Desirable);
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- A proficient user of contemporary PC office-based software applications;
- A current Driver Licence;
- Pool cars are available for site visits when required
