A Machine Operator for Asphalt is responsible for operating and maintaining heavy machinery used in the construction and maintenance of asphalt roads and surfaces. They ensure that asphalt is prepared, applied, and finished correctly, contributing to the quality and durability of roadways and other paved areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Machine Operation: Operate heavy machinery, such as asphalt pavers, rollers, and milling machines, to distribute, compact, and shape asphalt surfaces as per project requirements.
- Material Handling: Load and transport asphalt materials to the work site using dump trucks or other equipment. Coordinate with crew members to ensure a steady supply of materials.
- Quality Control: Monitor machine settings and asphalt thickness to ensure that the paving process meets project specifications and quality standards.
- Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on equipment, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs. Report any mechanical issues to supervisors for timely resolution.
- Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and procedures to minimize the risk of accidents and ensure a safe working environment. This includes operating machinery in a safe and responsible manner.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve minor equipment malfunctions or adjust machine settings as needed during paving operations.
- Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with supervisors, crew members, and other team members to coordinate work and address any issues or concerns.
- Record-Keeping: Maintain records of equipment operation, maintenance, and materials used for reporting and documentation purposes.
- Perform asphalt paving, resurfacing, and repair work according to project specifications
- Operate and maintain asphalt paving equipment, including pavers, rollers, and compactors
- Ensure quality control and adherence to safety guidelines on construction site
- Participate in routine maintenance and repairs of equipment as required

- Relevant experience as a machine operator in the asphalt or construction industry (Roller, Bobcat, Excavtor.)
- Knowledge of asphalt materials and equipment.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery safely and efficiently.
- Basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
- Understanding of safety regulations in the construction industry.
- Construction Safety Induction (White Card)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in outdoor environments with exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Stamina and physical strength to handle the demands of the job, including lifting, bending, and operating heavy machinery.
- Proven experience as an Asphalter or similar role
- Knowledge of asphalt paving techniques and road construction
- Ability to operate and maintain asphalt equipment
- MR License highly desirable
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
