Our client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Financial Accountant to join our team within the Financial Services Unit. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver exceptional accounting services to support the smooth functioning of the council's financial operations. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of their financial reporting processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the preparation of statutory reports and analysis related to Fixed Assets function.
- Maintain the integrity of the General Ledger by ensuring accurate and timely processing of accounting transactions, clearing suspense accounts, and conducting reconciliations.
- Ensure data integrity of the fixed assets system by performing regular updates of depreciation, capital expenditure, and asset disposals.
- Analyse, process, and reconcile Fixed Assets data for both desktop and comprehensive revaluations.
- Support the implementation of financial system upgrades and participate in finance-related projects.
- Conduct timely and accurate reconciliations of Balance Sheet accounts, identifying issues and implementing corrective actions.
- Review internal controls, procedures, and processes, recommending improvements for continuous enhancement.
- Collaborate closely with Strategic Asset Management staff to meet asset management information requirements.
- Prepare and analyse monthly financial reports, including creating monthly provisions and providing analytical support for statutory and other reports.
- Undertake financial analysis and modeling using appropriate financial models.
- Provide guidance and knowledge-building support to leaders within the organisation.
About you:
- Stay updated with relevant legislation, statutory regulations, and best practices to maintain a subject-matter-expert mindset.
- Drive continuous improvement and innovation in practices, procedures, and technology to enhance client service.
- Establish performance metrics to identify and mitigate risks effectively.
- Foster effective relationships with external stakeholders, including community organizations, contractors, and government authorities.
- Prioritize health and safety in the workplace and comply with WHS legislative obligations.
- Promote diversity and inclusion in all practices and decision-making processes.
- Contribute to organisational effectiveness by acting ethically, honestly, and fairly.
We are looking for candidates with:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or Commerce with a major in Accounting or similar.
- CA/CPA qualification or working towards certification.
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in Local Government asset financial accounting.
- Must have experience using Technology One.
Skills:
- Proficiency in utilising business intelligence tools to deliver meaningful insights into business performance.
- Strong financial accounting abilities, including the application of accounting principles, policies, and procedures.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Advanced problem-solving and decision-making abilities, especially in resolving complex issues and conflicts collaboratively.
