As a member of a small team, the Work Health Safety (WHS) and Wellbeing Advisor will assist in the delivery of WHS and wellbeing initiatives across the department. These functions encompass work health safety, early intervention, compensable and non- compensable case management and wellbeing initiatives to support our employees.
The occupant of this position must display good judgement skills; possess personal accountability and resilience; contribute to team goals; and have demonstrated capability for delivering against competing priorities.
The principal accountabilities and responsibilities include:
- Facilitate a safe and healthy workplace by assisting and coordinating programs , researching relevant initiatives and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
- Work individually and as a part of a small team to achieve best performance and deliver results within deadlines.
- Provide support to the WHS Specialist & Team Leader in delivering on Branch objectives.
- Contribute to strategic solutions, problem solving and issues management.
- Maintain WHS data including the WHS and Wellbeing intranet pages.
- Monitor and action WHS inbox queries.
- Assist in the management of the EAP contract and prepare quarterly reports on usage, trends and recommend actions as required.
- Assist with developing, revising and implementing certain aspects of the departments and procedures in relation to work health safety and rehabilitation case management.
- Coordinate training programs, nomination processes and network meetings for Harassment Contact Officers, First Aid Officers, Health and Safety Representatives.
- Maintain information on notification and reporting of incidents, hazards and monitor follow-up action.
- Assist in the incident and hazard investigation process and engage with the regulator as required.
- Compensable and non-compensable case management (including fitness for duty) with the support of WHS Specialist and Team Leader WHS.
- Assist with the co-ordination of the departments drug and alcohol testing.
- Ensure compliance with legislative requirements of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act) and Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 (SRC Act).
The following are the specific selection criteria for the role:
- Sound knowledge of work health and safety legislation and arrangements coupled with the ability to deliver workplace safety and well-being initiatives.
- Well-developed organisational and communication skills with accuracy and attention to detail and the ability to multitask.
- Ability to contribute positively to strategic thinking, identifying linkages and opportunities to improve processes and results.
- Proven client service and team skills, in a small team environment, with the ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external working relationships through consultation and sharing of information.
- Commitment to work health and safety policies, procedures and APS values, including demonstrated personal qualities of integrity, initiative, drive and adaptability and experience in implementing sound workplace management practices
- Candidate must be an Australian citizen, NV1 Security Clearance Level is desirable
