Job Description
The Research Portfolio Manager will take on an agile role across the engagement and process elements of the Research & Development Investment (RDI) business unit. Undertaking roles between elements of engagement and process will be guided by the Senior Research Portfolio Manager.
- Engage stakeholders in discussions regarding strategic needs and priorities in collaboration with Strategy and Innovation team and extension and adoption with the Transformational Change Manager
- Provide advice to the MD & Board on finalised requests for funding relative to the strategic priorities of the FRDC
- Work cross functionally with the FRDC's Strategy & Innovation team to identify innovation opportunities
- Undertake meeting planning, communications and coordination of IPAs, RACs, Services & Coordination Programs (as required)
- Provide advice and outcomes of funding processes and opportunities to relevant IPAs, RACs, Services & Subprograms
- Present at appropriate industry forums to raise the profile of FRDC, the benefits of the research undertaken and promote opportunities for involvement and investment
- Contribute to a team based approach to R&D management across the entire investment portfolio
- Engage providers in a dialogue about their project, providing suggestions on how to ensure projects are managed on time and on budget
- Review milestones in order to approve content in line with agreed deliverables, enabling payments to providers
- Manage post completion analysis for each project, to review project outcomes against KPIs developed at project commencement, as well as cost benefit analysis
The Successful Applicant
To thrive in this role, it is essential that applicants possess a strong background in the National Fisheries industry, specifically in marine science, aquatic science, or natural resource Research, Development, and Extension (RD&E).
- Demonstrated proficiency with project management systems, database and document storage software
- Demonstrated ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Adapts speech, presentation and conversation to the understanding of the audience
- Ability to synthesise and communicate complex concepts to a diverse audience.
- Excellent written communication skills and the ability to collate and consolidate information in summary form
- In-depth knowledge of and experience in the fisheries sectors to be able to discuss priorities and needs with communities and stakeholders, as well as effectively assess on-going research projects
- Stakeholder engagement experience to be able to effectively coordinate and engage with Research Advisory Corporations and Industry Partners
Mandatory Requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications in marine or aquatic science or natural resource management preferred
- Sound knowledge or related industry experience in the marine science, aquatic science, or natural resource science R&D field.
- Must be prepared to travel as and when required
- Must be willing to undergo all Pre-employment Medical and Police checks
- Must be an Australian Citizen
