DUTIES
Provide inspired and supportive leadership to the Community Engagement Team comprising the Lived Experience Peer Advisors, to develop service engagement in the veteran community and support the effective delivery of military-informed services to clients of Open Arms. Undertake community engagement to support the veteran community, and promote and oversee the implementation and delivery of relevant treatment and psychoeducational groups and workshops to the clients and stakeholders of Open Arms in the region. Being responsible for the following activities;
- Provide clinical leadership in regional delivery of Open Arms programs and services, including oversight of the Community Engagement Team, comprising the Lived Experience Community and Peer Advisors, and Community Engagement Coordinator. Promote and support the input of Lived Experience into all regional Open Arms service streams. Demonstrate commitment to the value of Lived Experience in assisting members of the veteran community to access relevant treatment and support within a stepped-care model of practice.
- In accordance with organisational goals and identified regional demand, ensure a program of treatment and psychoeducational groups and workshops are developed, promoted, and delivered to targeted populations and areas to achieve maximum client and stakeholder access. This will include;
o Developing and maintaining strategic relationships with key stakeholders including Defence and ex-service organisations;
o Providing strategic regional input to the Open Arms National Director Clinical Programs and Open Arms Communications teams;
o Collaborating in relevant research activities and trials and identifying new evidence- based program initiatives to support emerging client needs.
- Undertake line management and supervision for the Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC), Group Program Coordinator, and provide leadership for members of the Community Engagement Team. Be responsible for the recruitment, selection, induction, development, and performance management of such employees to ensure their ability to meet service delivery requirements:
o Maintain active awareness of the caseloads of the Community Engagement Team through the provision of regular operational supervision of the CEC and coordination of Community Engagement Team meetings;
o Provide timely updates on complex or at-risk clients, including matters requiring external or departmental liaison to the Regional Escalated Case Oversight meetings and elsewhere as required;
o Provide support and direction to the Group Program Coordinator in the region and ensure that suitable group programs are available to meet regional client demand and are delivered in accordance with agreed Open Arms group program standards;
o Facilitate a professional development program for the staff based on the needs of Open Arms business priorities and in accordance with identified professional development
requirements;
o Ensure staff are trained in, and adhere to the principles of holistic risk assessment and planning in their interaction with clients of Open Arms;
o Ensure all staff are meeting their workload requirements and are maintaining active professional development and regular professional supervision; and
o Process staff leave applications, maintain staffing rosters, demonstrate leadership behaviours and support workplace practices in line with policies of OH&S, Workplace
Diversity, and the Australian Public Service Values, Employment Principles, and Code of Conduct.
- Support the Regional Director to maintain strategic alliances with other business areas of the Department of Veterans Affairs, Defence, ex-service organisations, government agencies and other service providers through regular reporting, negotiation, liaison and joint service delivery;
o Engage in stakeholder meetings and community-based networks, and develop key relationships with relevant organisations, including other allied health providers, to support the development of service delivery options for veterans and their families;
o Liaise with the Regional Director, Assistant Director Clinical Coordination Allocations and/or Assistant Director Clinical Operations regarding complex cases, contribute clinical expertise where appropriate and support the provision of regular operational supervision and coordination of clinical team meetings;
o Coordinate and represent Open Arms at stakeholder events, community development and related activities, and undertake other duties in consultation with the Regional Director as required; and
o Demonstrate leadership behaviours and workplace practices in line with policies of OHS, Workplace Diversity and the Australian Public Service Values, Employment Principles and Code of Conduct
- In collaboration with the Regional Clinical Practice Manager, support the activities of the Clinical Support Team members who work alongside the Community Outreach and Groups team. Identify and support professional development needs of these support staff and liaise with the Regional Clinical Practice Manager as necessary concerning their duties or Performance.
- As a member of the regional leadership group, participate in clinical and team meetings, and contribute to the management, departmental projects and committees.
o Demonstrate leadership behaviours and workplace practices in line with policies of WHS, Workplace Diversity and the Australian Public Service values, Employment Principles and Code of Conduct.
o Provide advice to the Regional Director on professional developments of team members as identified.
o Act for the Regional Director as required.
o Actively contribute to and implement Open Arms National projects, clinical policies and procedures, research initiatives and Quality Assurance activities as required:
o Contribute to the ongoing improvement of Open Arms clinical policies and procedures and to the implementation of related counselling and case management practices at the local level;
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications as a registered Psychologist / Mental Health Occupational Therapist / Mental
Health Registered Nurse with full AHPRA registration, OR
Qualification as a Social Worker eligible for membership of the Australian Association Social
Workers (AASW) and be eligible to apply for Mental Health accreditation.
AND
Working with Children (WWC) and/or Vulnerable People Checks/Clearance
Extensive clinical and relevant management experience
HIGHLY DESIRABLE SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Relevant experience within the Australian Public Services
Relevant experience in complex case management
Relevant experience in the leadership and management of clinical teams
Management experience within clinical settings
Contract management experience is highly desirable
