Job Description

Key accountabilities

1. Lead and role model customer focused behaviour by delivering the highest standards of service to our customers, and by treating Customers with honesty, fairness, sensitivity and dignity.

2. Provide advice and information as required by Management and staff on speciality Workplace Health and Safety matters consistent with legislation, sound principles and practices and Field Services Group requirements.

3. Provide Workplace Health and Safety advice to FSG units as required, based on sound educational and risk management principles with the objective of reducing the incidence and severity of workplace injuries including:

* Design, conduct and evaluate targeted Workplace Health and Safety training, induction, hazard awareness and job-specific risk management programs.

* Monitor and audit Workplace Health and Safety Management System practices and procedures and provide strategies for achieving compliance with Workplace Health and Safety legislation requirements;

* Provide analysis and interpretation of Workplace Health and Safety performance and preparation of reports to management;

* Investigate and report on accidents involving serious bodily harm, work related ill-health and dangerous events, to meet legislative requirements;

* Provide recommendations that will assist in the implementation of health programs to facilitate early injury/illness management plans.

4. Work with other FSG staff on a range of projects as required, contributing Workplace Health and Safety specialist skills to multi-disciplinary teams.

5. Manage the rehabilitation program and absenteeism reports for the Construction Branch.

6. Contribute to the continuous improvement of FSG Integrated Management System and undertake all work in accordance with the Council's and FSG Workplace Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.

The Successful Applicant

Essential:

1. Knowledge of, and the ability to apply, the relevant Workplace Health and Safety and Environmental and Quality policies and procedures in the field, and a sound knowledge of EEO policies and practice.

2. Ability to provide Workplace Health & Safety services to the Construction Branch, including monitoring performance, producing reports, analysing data, identify trends and proposing strategies to continually improve performance.

3. Investigation skills in undertaking health and safety audits, investigating injuries, accidents and dangerous events.

4. Sound verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of management and staff groups, provide credible, professional advice and develop and present high-quality Workplace Health and Safety training and education programs.

5. Accreditation as a Workplace Health & Safety Officer under the Workplace Health and Safety Act.

6. Physical fitness level commensurate to meet challenges of specific work site

7. Valid First Aid Certification including CPR currency

8. Computer skills to a minimum MS Office suite level

Desirable:

1. Sound understanding of Workplace Health and Safety issues in the construction and maintenance industry - particularly in relation to Bridge Construction, Steel Structures, Structures over Waterways, Major Arterial Roads.

2. Background and experience of on-site construction in the field of Engineering or Construction.

3. Basic SAP skills
