Ongoing Position - 30.40 Hours per week

The Womens Mental Health Service provides mental health services to the Womens Hospital at Parkville. Major areas of activity are in the domains of clinical work, service development and leadership of womens mental health frameworks, along with education and training. Clinical services cover each of the hospitals clinical streams, i.e. maternity services, gynaecology, womens cancer, and neonatal service

Your contribution

The Psychology Manager is a leadership role at the Womens responsible for leading the Womens Mental Health Psychology Team. In partnership with the Head of Psychiatry, the Psychology Manager will ensure the Mental Health Service delivers high quality care to women that meets the needs of women who are inpatients or outpatients of The Womens, and have mental health challenges. These women may be connected with maternity, oncology, gynaecology, social work, sexual assault services or the womens drug and alcohol service. The manager will manage and develop the team in consultation with the Director Social Model of Health and liaise with key internal and external stakeholders including precinct partners. Maintaining clear partnerships with the teams within the Social Model of Health and the maternity, neonatal and womens health teams is a priority for the role.

The manager will be required to maintain an awareness of up to date evidence based practices and changes in the health and government landscape to ensure that the mental health team is continuing to adapt in the provision of high quality care and service. Further, this role will continue to remain aware of broader systemic changes within the mental health sector that may provide opportunities for service enhancement, particularly those stemming from recommendations from the Royal Commission into Mental Health.

Your duties will include (but are not limited to) the following:

Leadership/ Strategic Development Identify and develop long and short term strategic and operational goals for the team and service. In collaboration with the Director, provide leadership, support and direction to the development and improvement of the team and service. Ensure that all staff are supported to work professionally, safely and effectively, in accordance with the Womens evidence-based guidelines, and relevant professional standards. Provide a visible leadership presence across the team and service. Ensures strong partnerships are formed and maintained with peers within the Social Model for Health division. Develops strong links with leaders in all other areas of the Womens. Provides strategic advice on the development of the team and service to the Director Social Model of Health. Supports research, teaching and training within the service and within the organisation. Represents the Womens in relation to womens mental health. Considers opportunities for service development and program enhancement. Accountable for ensuring adequate staffing with appropriately qualified and credentialed staff in accordance with legislative and industrial requirements. Accountable for ensuring all staff within the psychology team are aware of, and are operating in accordance with, their OH&S responsibilities in accordance with Hospital policy and legislation. Effective and responsible management of material, financial and human resources within the department.

Clinical Leadership Lead by example in the provision of high-quality evidence based clinical care delivered by a multi-disciplinary team to women accessing the clinical service. Promote and maintain an exemplary standard of clinical practice in the team. Provide supervision to registrars and other psychologists within the team. Ensure all consultations, treatment plans and other aspects of care delivered by the team are documented, to support ongoing care, communication and to meet medico-legal requirements. In partnership with the Head of Psychiatry, establish / develop treatment protocols, and clinical guidelines to promote and ensure best practice standards, and ensure the team practices in accordance with them. In partnership with the Head of Psychiatry, coordinate and lead team meetings and in-services and support professional development of all members of the multidisciplinary team. Active involvement in at least one clinical hospital committee and participation in clinical governance activities. Identifyissues of concernin the provision of clinical services and mechanisms forresolving such issues, including reporting unresolved issues as requiredto the Director Social Model of Health. Administrative Leadership responsibilities Assist the Director Social Model of Health in the administration of the team, as delegated. Attend division meetings, as required. Participate in meetings as delegated and reasonably required by the Director to facilitate appropriate service management and development at the Womens. Participate in the development of the Womens Mental Health Service annual budget and be responsible for the efficient use of all allocated resources. Provide advice on psychology staffing and recruitment to the team to the Director Social Model ofHealth. Undertake and document annual performance development meetings with the psychology staff withinthe team. Ensure staff within the team are aware of, and work in accordance with, all relevant Womens policies and procedures. Clinical Responsibilities Provide assessment and/or treatment to women who are inpatients or outpatients of the Womens who have mental health challenges. These women may be connected with maternity, oncology, gynaecology, social work, sexual assault services or the Womens drug and alcohol service. Be involved in the triage of referrals to the Mental Health Team. Work with other staff/units of the Womens and provide advice, consultation and support to assist in the care of women with mental health challenges. Ensure effective communication and continuity of care for women by liaising promptly with other practitioners at the womens, including specialist clinics, private practitioners and with community agencies. Participating in the Complex Care Multidisciplinary Meeting

About you

To be successful within this role you will need to have: General Registration as a Psychologist with specialist endorsement in clinical psychology with the Psychology Board of Australia Psychology Board approved supervisor status: o Student placements from higher degree clinical psychology programs, o Registrar Program Principal Supervisor Experience in perinatal and infant, child and adult mental health. Experience managing a team in a complex health environment and multidisciplinary setting. Leadership skills, including the ability to provide supervision and management of health professionals of various disciplines, including provision of professional leadership and guidance. High level communication skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate at all levels An ability to think strategically and ensure there is systematic and competent management of mid to long term issues. A strong results orientation, managing for key outputs and improvements in clinical performance. Clear knowledge of policy direction and relevant legislation in the mental health sector. Extensive experience networking and liaising with government and non-government organisations to establish improved services for vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals and communities. Highly capable in the development of strategic plans, and design of innovative practices and programs. Demonstrated understanding of clinical governance. Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills. High level interpersonal and advocacy skills. Experience in policy, advocacy, research and program development. Demonstrated capacity to implement quality, research and education programs. Experience in the development of effective working relationships with consumers and carers. Knowledge of evidence- based guidelines relevant to the provision of womens mental healthservices. Competent computer literacy including use of PC, mouse, keyboard, standard Microsoft officesoftware.

As this role fits into category A or B of the departments risk ratings, applicants will be required to have been vaccinated against influenza. Evidence of vaccination is required.
