Your new role
Randstad is currently seeking an outstanding accounts payable team leader to join a well known State Government Department in the transport sector.
Duties:
- Manage a small team of finance professional to deliver purchasing and accounting advice, support, and financial reporting to a range of stakeholders.
- Lead engagement with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to support seamless procure to pay processes.
- Provide guidance to team members on appropriate accounting and tax treatment of financial transactions, and financial analysis and compliance review activities.
- Lead and act as a quality controller across all aspects of accounts payable/accounts receivable function to ensure consistency in policy application and advice.
- Manage the maintenance, revisions and implementation of all related policies and procedures.
- Review project financial transactions in compliance with departmental policies and processes, including requisitions, purchase orders, journals.
- Utilise data analytics / reporting tools to monitor and report back on performance and control effectiveness, and support identification and implementation of control improvements.
- Manage monthly accruals processes ensuring appropriate substantiation is available for review and audit.
- Manage and engage with external and internal auditors on enquiries relating to accounts payable, accounts receivable and expense management matters
- Ensure financial records management complies with statutory and departmental requirements.
- Monitoring project cash flow requirements and prepare monthly/annual cash forecast
Skills required:
- High degree of proficiency in use of a broad variety of software applications including enterprise resource planning (Oracle Cloud Financial, Unifier or similar), and financial reporting systems, Microsoft Office (minimum intermediate proficiency in Excel) and electronic records management systems.
- Proven experience to provide specialist purchasing and accounts support services in a complex project environment, including understanding of government purchasing rules and the application of effective purchasing controls.
- Well-developed understanding of accounting standards and tax legislation ensuring appropriate application and treatment of transactions.
- Proven experiences in gathering reporting requirements and preparing reports to be used by a variety of stakeholders.
- Tertiary qualification in Business/Commerce or a related discipline is highly desirable. A membership of, or progress towards, a relevant professional association would be well regarded.
