Your new role
As a Community and Peer Advisor, your duties will be tasks including but not limited to
- In line with department policy and procedures, provide personalised peer support services to internal and external stakeholders.
- Where appropriate, share knowledge gained through ones relevant lived experience and recovery to promote awareness, understanding and service improvement.
- Role model behaviours which promote mental health recovery and wellness for the purpose of client, community, and stakeholder education and engagement.
- Co-facilitate relevant group programs.
- Work effectively and cooperatively as a member of the Community Engagement Team
- Represent the department and the peer workforce to strengthen the organisations public profile, in order to further enhance organisational responsiveness and reach.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of the departments Governance policies and Accreditation.
- Participate in program evaluation and research activities, strategic direction and quality improvement, particularly in relation to community engagement activities.
- Support participative workplace practices in line with policies of WHS, Workplace Diversity and the Australian Public Service values, Employment Principles and the APS Code of Conduct.
- Collaborate with Community and Peer Advisors and Community Engagement Coordinators both locally and nationally, including participating in and contributing to a peer work Community of Practice.
- Participate in regular supervision, training, case conferencing and case review meetings.
What will you need to be successful in this role
To be considered for this role you would have skills & experience in the following to be successful:
- Ability to respectfully and effectively utilise this experience to promote a recovery focused approach to support others
- Willingness to undertake relevant training and professional development
- Required to be an Australian Citizen
- - Working with Children (WWC) and/or Vulnerable People Checks/Clearance must be obtained prior to commencing in the position.
- Dealing with sensitive and confidential documents
- Achieve results with minimal supervision
- Have an extremely high level of attention to detail
- Lived experience of mental health issues and ADF service, as either an ex-ADF member or partner/carer of a current serving or ex-ADF member (spouse, ex-partner or widow/widower).
- Experience supporting veterans and/or their family members and promoting recovery oriented behaviours
- Experience in casework or other human services delivery
The ideal candidate for this role will be professional, confident and have demonstrated experience in the following areas
- Previous experience within a similar role is highly desirable
- Decision-making and finding outcomes for complex matters
- Management of confidential and sensitive information
- The ability to engage with diverse audiences and stakeholders
- High performance working in both autonomously and as part of a team
- Excellent computer, written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent punctuality and attendance
