Job summary
The Bus Industry Confederation is the national peak body representing Australias bus and coach operators, manufacturers, and associated service providers. The organisation has two arms the Confederation itself which is responsible for policy, advocacy and technical services, and the Australian Public Transport Industrial Association. This newly created role will work across both arms of the organisation and offers you a chance to advance your career and make an impact for an essential industry that keeps Australia moving.Reporting directly to the ED, your focus will be to build and position BIC as the voice of authority across all issues and aspects of the bus and coach industry and public transport more generally in Australia. Our aim is to be the first point of contact for all key stakeholders from both the government and private sectors, and to ensure awareness and understanding of our policy positions and understanding of the importance of the moving people task.
Your influence and input will touch all key components of the communication lifecycle - from preparing media briefs and talking points to developing the annual communications plans, social media strategy, annual report production and issues management.
Another key aspect of the role is designing and implementing a member marketing and communications plan. You will work with the ED and other team members on strategy, and take responsibility for acquisition, retention, and campaigns. Youll engage with a wide range of members and non-members to understand needs, promote services and identify opportunities.

CommunicationsDevelop and maintain the BICs strategic communications planWrite clear, interesting copy on a range of technical and other subjects including developing the annual report Develop media releases, newsletters, editorial, social media content and web videosIdentify and pitch stories to the national and industry mediaManage the BICs digital presence Coordinate media interviews and briefings Grow the BICs communications and media databasesCoach other team members in developing content for the web and social mediaManage outsourced graphic design, printing, market research and other contractors.Be the custodian and champion of the BICs brand and develop a brand strategy that ensures all communications reflect the BIC brand guidelines including appropriate tone and manner, messaging, visual identity.
Membership Develop and implement the BICs member marketing and communications strategy and annual planDevelop innovative campaigns and initiatives to increase member recruitment, engagement, and retention in conjunction with the Events manager Develop and maintain member collateralTrack metrics, performance and ROICommission and oversee relevant member market research
The role is often the first point of contact for incoming member and prospective member inquiries via phone and email and must deliver exceptional standards of customer service and professionalism.
