About usAt Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ), we develop world-leading standards to ensure a safe food supply for Australia and New Zealand. We do so by maintaining an effective, transparent and accountable regulatory framework. Our work includes analytical and behavioural research, the development of industry standards, food incident response, education and public awareness, and corporate services. This work is essential for protecting consumers and dealing with the challenges of a globalised and rapidly evolving food sector. FSANZ is a small agency with a specialised workforce. As the only bi-national agency in the Australian public sector, we have the unique opportunity to work across both Australia and New Zealand. Qualifications & experience
The successful candidate must: Recognised tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as economics, health economics, behavioural economics, psychology, policy, consumer studies, sociology, marketing, or other relevant social scientific or business field.
Tasks & responsibilities
The role consists of individually or as a member of a team carrying out a range of research functions including: Preparing regulatory impact statements to inform the development of new (or amended) food standards, including undertaking cost benefit analysis.Undertaking and / or overseeing research projects to build the evidence base to support regulatory impact statements.Interpreting, developing and applying policy.Providing timely, strategic advice to the Minister, Department, FSANZ Board, other FSANZ Sections and other bodies based on the best available evidence. Preparing reports, papers and presentations to support evidence-based standards development.Developing and managing research proposals and tenders to be completed by external consultants.Engaging and collaborating with stakeholders in other FSANZ Sections, and with Australian, New Zealand, State and non-Government organisations pursuant to the above duties. Represent and explain the views of FSANZ at meetings and workshops as required.Build and maintain networks with similar overseas regulators and with academic experts to encourage sharing of expertise and collaboration on shared problems.Managing project resources and undertake other tasks as required.Building team capability by coaching and mentoring others and encouraing career development. May also be required to supervise and manage junior staff.
