The First Nations Strategic Advisor will play a critical role in providing strategic guidance, subject matter expertise, and cultural competency to support the development of their First Nations Strategy. This role is suitable for a candidate who identifies as First Nations or alternatively, has delegated authority by First Nations elders to speak on behalf of First Nations communities.
The primary responsibilities of this position include:
- Providing a First Nations perspective and insights into the development and implementation of the First Nations Strategy, including validating strategic direction, and providing subject matter expertise.
- Guiding and advocating for the strategy development and implementation process and findings internally and externally to help drive alignment and build the profile of the work.
- Maintaining a strong profile in key internal and external stakeholder networks, building, and maintaining stakeholder confidence and partnerships as well as speaking at stakeholder consultations and events, as required.
- Attending governance sessions with key stakeholders. This includes being a member of the First Nations Advisory Group (FNAG), and providing strategic input into FNAG sessions.
Additional Position Requirements
- Previous career experience at a senior executive level or, strongly experienced in engaging with and influencing stakeholders at a senior executive level.
- Experience in organisational strategy and action plan development.
- Cultural competency, including knowledge and/or experience of safe and inclusive community engagement and facilitation.
- Broad, diverse expertise in First Nations matters, issues and priorities, across different sectors and/or intersectionalities.
