About your new role
The position provides organisational leadership and oversight in responding to natural hazard risk, supporting the delivery of strategic natural hazard planning, as well as the provision of customer service and flood emergency advice functions to internal and external stakeholders.
In collaboration with other Branches, Directorates and external agencies, the position will facilitate the preparation and delivery of policies and services to reduce the exposure and vulnerability from natural hazards to the citys residents, visitors, and the citys built and natural environment.
Key Deliverables of the position:Leads the preparation and implementation of climate resilience planning and natural hazard policy to inform strategic land use and infrastructure planning.Delivers the Natural Hazards work program in line with the City Planning delivery program and corporate business management, reporting and budgetary processes.Identifies and prioritises opportunities, threats, trends and advancements in policy best practice and technology through ongoing environmental scanning, and advises key stakeholders of emerging issues.Facilitates the maintenance and update of the Citys flood models and flood search service for internal and external stakeholders.Coordinates the delivery of flood intelligence and information to the Citys Disaster Coordination Centre during flood emergencies.
About YouYou will possess leadership in planning and natural hazards policy development.You will have highly developed interpersonal skills and experience managing a high-performing and diverse team, fostering professional development and good relationships across the City Planning Branch and organisation.You will have problem solving skills and attributes and be agile and adaptive to emerging issues and opportunities.
Please note that this is an Executive Contract Position and the hours of work are reflective to meet Executive duties/obligations.

The Selection Process
As part of our selection process, you may be required to undertake a one-way video interview via SparkHire, and a face-to-face or virtual interview via Microsoft Teams. You may also be required to undertake police checks, employment history checks, qualification checks and drug and alcohol testing (The City of Gold Coast has an Alcohol and Other Drugs Procedure which incorporates AOD testing combining both breath alcohol and urine tests for drugs (AS 3547:1997 and AS/NZS 4308:2008).
