job detailsRandstad has partnered with a not-for-profit organisation that is seeking a Research Officer to contribute to the expansion of the Youth Opportunity Compass, an applied research data project within the National Youth Employment Body. The Research Officer will be responsible for supporting data analysis and output production for the Youth Opportunity Compass, which aims to understand the needs and opportunities for youth employment solutions in regions with high youth unemployment. The role will involve working with large datasets, data visualization, quantitative analysis, report writing, stakeholder engagement, and policy development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development of online data platforms, including data visualization using Power BI and analysis of large public datasets related to employment, demographics, education, housing, and wellbeing.
- Assist with quantitative data analysis, including data cleaning and multivariate analysis.
- Support the development of data management systems to track and manage government-owned datasets.
- Facilitate workshops with stakeholders, including designing workshop materials and processes.
- Contribute to report writing and project-based work.
- Participate in policy development, influencing, and advocacy activities.
- Collect feedback from stakeholders through interviews and surveys.
- Support research activities through note-taking and preparation of agendas and workshop materials.
- Contribute to the dissemination and promotion of research findings through presentations and co-authoring publications.
- Foster relationships with key research, policy, and relevant organizations.
- Engage in Social Policy And Research Centre (SPARC) and client activities as required.
- Carry out administrative work and provide support to meet research objectives.
- Collaborate within teams and demonstrate commitment to their quality framework and culture.
Key Selection Criteria:
- Knowledge or capacity to develop knowledge in the field of youth employment, including current research and policy issues.
- Understanding of social research and policy environment.
- Familiarity with ethical research practices and codes.
- Demonstrated research skills, including quantitative analysis and capacity to develop qualitative skills.
- Time management and organizational skills, including prioritization and meeting deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency with research-related software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Personal qualities such as compassion, collaboration, attention to detail, and alignment with BSL's values.
- Tertiary qualification with relevant experience or equivalent combination of experience and education/training.
Mandatory Employment Criteria:
- Proof of eligibility to work in Australia.
- Satisfactory Police Check and Working with Children Check.
