Job Description: Sustainability Officer (Engineering Focus)

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Sustainability Officer with a strong background in engineering to join our local council's efforts in promoting and implementing sustainable practices. The chosen candidate will play a pivotal role in driving our community's commitment to environmental stewardship and resource efficiency. Responsibilities:

- Sustainable Infrastructure Development: Collaborate with various departments to design, develop, and implement sustainable infrastructure projects that reduce energy consumption, enhance waste management, and promote efficient resource utilization within the local council.
- Energy Efficiency Initiatives: Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency in council-operated facilities and operations. Conduct energy audits, recommend and implement energy-saving technologies, and monitor energy consumption patterns to achieve targeted reductions.
- Waste Management Solutions: Devise strategies to minimize waste generation, increase recycling rates, and implement waste-to-energy initiatives. Coordinate with waste management providers and local communities to enhance waste diversion programs.
- Green Building Practices: Lead efforts to incorporate sustainable design principles into new construction and renovation projects within the council's jurisdiction. Advocate for green building certifications and ensure compliance with relevant environmental standards.
- Community Engagement: Organize and participate in public outreach campaigns, workshops, and educational events to raise awareness about sustainability issues. Collaborate with community groups, businesses, and schools to foster a culture of environmental consciousness.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect and analyze data related to environmental metrics, such as carbon emissions, energy usage, and waste generation. Prepare regular reports to track progress, set benchmarks, and communicate the council's sustainability achievements.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field (e.g., Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering).
- Proven experience in sustainability, environmental management, or related roles.
- Strong understanding of sustainable practices, renewable energy systems, and green technologies.
- Excellent analytical skills to assess data, identify trends, and formulate effective strategies.
- Exceptional communication abilities for community engagement, report writing, and presentations.
- Working knowledge of sustainable building tools such as Green Star, NABERS, Living, Building, WELL.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and lead interdisciplinary teams as well as asset management understanding.
- Knowledge of local and national environmental regulations and policies.
