Your new role
You will work 38 hours each week, providing payroll support to the Finance team. Responsibilities will include:
- To undertake all fortnightly payroll activities for the council.
- Assess time sheets, leave applications and travel claim forms for appropriate payment entitlements in accordance with the current enterprise agreement.
- Perform the reconciliation and dispatch of payroll deductions to relevant organisations including the Australian Taxation Office, superannuation schemes, medical schemes and insurance companies as required.
- Maintain Council's payroll master records.
- Process accident and compensation related payments, redundancies and terminations.
- Calculate and perform any payroll related adjustments, including back pays, terminations, and salary adjustments.
- Assist with keeping the organisation Hierarchy updated in the Authority system as the organisation structure changes over time.
- Reconcile General Ledger payroll accounts, including all deductions and allowances, and any items in the Payroll suspense account.
- Assist with producing management reports on a monthly and quarterly basis for inclusion in Executive, Council and Audit Committee agendas.
- Provide payroll costing analysis from time to time as requested by management, including figures for quarterly Council reports and monthly Executive Management reports.
Leave records
- Process and reconcile Leave Applications.
- Arrange for the transfer of Long Service Leave entitlements between Council and other organisations in accordance with the current Long Service Leave regulations.
- Maintain accurate leave registers and provide appropriate data for the end of financial year requirements.
Superannuation
- Undertake the administration of Councils obligations under superannuation legislation including the verification, reconciliation and processing of all reports and data transfers to Vision Super.
- Reconcile General Ledger superannuation account reconciliations and ensure all payments are made on a regular basis.
Other Duties
- Participate in the Payroll User Group for the Authority payroll software.
- Testing of system upgrades and enhancements in the Authority test environment in line with the current Payroll upgrade test procedures.
- Liaise with auditors as required.
- Back fill for the Payroll Services Coordinator as required, in line with Councils higher duties policy.
- Perform other duties as directed within skills and abilities of a position at this level.
What you'll need to succeed
- Relevant extensive experience working in a payroll environment and well developed understanding of payroll practices and general accounting principles and practices.
- Experience in award, workplace agreements, legislation and policy interpretation and application.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide sound advice to staff and prepare internal and external payroll related correspondence.
- Demonstrated effective analytical, problem solving and investigative skills to identify potential problems and suggest a course of action.
- Advanced computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Excel and Word and general computer system administration.
- Demonstrated experience in a customer focused role
