Job Description
You will develop the profile of the organisation through generating media exposure and public interest opportunities. The successful candidate will manage all media activities to position the organisation as a leader and authoritative voice on mental health issues across Australia and New Zealand.
As a Senior Media and Communications Advisor you will:
- Provide strategic advice on media issues and communication strategies to assist in mitigating risk.
- Identify opportunities and manage the development of opinion editorials, letters to the editor, articles or briefing notes for members as required.
- Provide updates from media monitoring to internal stakeholders and advice on potential opportunities to leverage as required.
- Support and advise members with respect to providing media comments, either on behalf of the College or as individuals providing expert mental health opinion.
- Development and implementation of effective external communications plans and strategies, and act as an internal resource for staff and departments to identify media opportunities, execute messaging and campaigns and inform external stakeholders.
- Provide direction and guidance for the Social Media and Communications Officer by overseeing the development of social media strategies and coordination, moderation, and administration of the social media platform and associated accounts.
The Successful Applicant
The successful candidate will have:
- Professional experience in media and communications (health/medical writing experience well regarded),
- Experience in a membership-based organisation or in the health/mental health sector (highly regarded),
- A relevant tertiary qualification in communications, public relations, or journalism,
- An interest in mental health care and Australian and New Zealand health systems.
You will be an individual with high interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and liaise effectively across the team and departments. You have the initiative, sound judgement and the capacity to work proactively independently. You are flexible and committed to provide high quality customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
