and administering the National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy Testing (NAPLAN).

This role is located in the Corporate Services Division (CSD). CSD is responsible for providing information services
to the community and supporting the VCAA in finance, human resources, communications, governance, planning,
legal services, information technology infrastructure, procurement, audit, risk, project assurance.

The functions of the Legal Services Unit are to:
- provide legal advice and legislation services to the Authority, executive management and staff across the
operations of the VCAA, including in relation to statutory interpretation and administrative decision-making,
- advise on and draft contracts, agreements and instruments
- advise on copyright and intellectual property (IP) and manage the VCAA's IP
- manage freedom of information requests, provide privacy advice and manage matters arising under public
interest disclosure legislation
- manage the investigation and conduct of hearings into VCE exam misconduct allegations;
- provide records and archive management services.

Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to lead the effective delivery of a range of high-quality legal services, integrity
functions, freedom of information, and support the Authority and CEO to achieve the Authority's objectives
through strategic advice and management of legal risks.

The role forms part of the divisional leadership team and is to make a positive contribution to the workplace
culture and service excellence.

You are
- experienced in providing advice at an Executive level and/or Board level.
- an exemplary leader with extensive experience in the management of a professional unit providing legal advice
- able to scope, assess and mitigate complex legal risks, develop strategic, pragmatic and responsive solutions and
convey complex ideas clearly.

The role is a hands-on legal role, with responsibility for provision of legal advice along with the management of
four specialist staff (3.2 FTE) (and additional staff at times of seasonal demand), and duties associated with the
operation of a unit, including budget, finance, recruitment, and participation in leadership of the Authority. The
role requires liaison with internal and external stakeholders.
